The IRSE are looking for a new managing editor for our technical journal IRSE News
Help shape the future of rail communications
A fabulous opportunity has arisen to take the flagship publication IRSE News to the next stage of its development. The editorial and production team, ably led for the past 8 years by Paul Darlington Hon FIRSE, is looking for its next managing editor following Paul’s announcement to retire.
Whilst the role has some existing definition it is a chance for someone to propose new approaches and ideas. Candidates would ideally be established or recently retired railway signalling or telecommunications engineers with an extensive network of industry contacts.
The key element of the role is to coordinate the copy from various sources and make decisions in conjunction with the editorial and publishing team on themes and topics.
There will be the need to make some editorial decision in line with IRSE policy and there is an element of liaison with the CEO, Presidential Team, and other committee within the governance structure.
A good command of the English language is essential and the ability to occasionally write or secure from colleagues’ technical copy is desirable.
There is a need to manage the tight timelines necessary for the delivery of the publication on time and this is managed in conjunction with the production team.
