Presentation by Kenneth Herries, a Principal Engineer Railway Signalling for Nexus (Tyne and Wear Metro).

 

Ken Herries is the Principal Engineer Railway Signalling for Nexus, who own and operate the Tyne & Wear Metro based in the North East of England, the birthplace of the railways.

Ken is the professional head for railway signalling, working alongside a small core of railway signalling professionals, supporting the complete railway system. As a team we are responsible for many aspects of the railway and its safe operation, along with the signalling system, a quantity of level crossings and other key support systems.

The Overview of the Tyne & Wear Metro and the Railway Signalling System will discuss

• Tyne & Wear Metro - Brief History

• Its development ahead of time

• Current Railway signalling

• Projects of the past 10 years

• Unusual features

• The Metro’s future
