IRSE Presidential Lecture, joint with IET London Network, will continue the theme of unsung heroes with Emma Davey talking about systems engineering and integration
Railway Systems Integration – Dealing with Complexity
Railway Systems Integration is a critical aspect of delivering functional, reliable railway systems. It involves not just the technical alignment of complex subsystems – such as signalling, rolling stock, and infrastructure – but also the incorporation of operational, maintenance, and organisational elements to ensure that the railway system operates effectively and meets its intended benefits. The paper examines five themes – responsibility, complexity, staged delivery, scope, and stakeholders – drawing insights from major infrastructure and upgrade programmes, such as the London Underground Jubilee Line Extension and Crossrail.
Emma Davey is Head of Engineering Docklands Light Railway at Transport for London.
With a background in Communications Based Train Control system design and delivery, Systems Engineering management and System Integration expertise, Emma has worked in both client and supplier roles on multiple major railway programmes including Jubilee Line Extension, DLR Lewisham Extension, upgrades to the Jubilee and Northern lines, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, District and Circle lines and Crossrail.
This event will be hosted by The IET London Network, in collaboration with the IRSE at The IET, Savoy Place, London, UK.
