The IRSE Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals (Module A) is now available for booking for the exam on Saturday 1 March 2025. It is a computer-based exam and will be held online.

Please contact the exam team at exam@irse.org as soon as possible if you have any special requirements which you wish to discuss.

 

  • IRSE members and non-members can book to sit this exam.
  • See the essential reading list for the broad-based syllabus and essential reading material - questions will cover all the materials (see https://www.irse.org/Qualifications-Careers/Exam-Support-Resources/Module-A-ReadingList)
  • The cost is GBP £135 per person, with no discounts available.
  • There are 4 timeslots to choose from (starting at 05:00, 10:00, 13:30 and 16:00 UTC) - please note that all times are given in UTC which could be different to your local time.
  • The exam takes 90 minutes.
  • There are no exam centres - you are responsible for providing your own device (Windows, MacOS or Linux) with webcam, a suitable quiet environment with reliable internet without firewall or software download restrictions.
  • The exam is closed book, therefore no revision material, study aids or means of communication should be available to you while you are sitting the exam
  • You will be monitored throughout your exam by remote invigilation software.
  • You are expected to download and test the remote invigilation software by at least 2 weeks before exam day - the exam team will not be able to assist you resolving any issues after this point
